Record-breaking heatwaves that swept across Europe throughout August, with temperatures exceeding 40°C in many regions, serve as a serious warning about the urgent need to combat climate change. Through the RAGT project, we strive to promote ways in which individuals can significantly contribute to this goal through proper waste sorting and recycling. By carefully separating recyclable items, organic waste, and other materials, we can reduce greenhouse gas emissions from landfills and incinerators. Recycling saves energy and resources, reducing the carbon footprint of producing new products, while composting organic waste further helps in sequestering carbon in the soil. These small daily actions can collectively contribute to mitigating climate change and reducing the frequency and intensity of extreme heat events that are becoming increasingly common across Europe and the world.
